About This Spot

On a busy stretch of US 49 in Gulfport, Taco Sombrero offers a welcoming pulse of casual warmth amid the rush of the road. Approaching the modest, freestanding building, you quickly understand this is a place that serves up familiar Mexican flavors with unpretentious ease. Whether you’re stopping by through the drive-through, picking up carryout, or settling in to dine at one of the counter seats, the energy strikes a comfortable balance—steady, friendly, and genuine.

Inside, the pace moves along briskly, a reflection of its fast-food roots, but with the added pleasure of meals fresh from the kitchen. There’s a relaxed hum of chatter and quick smiles from staffers who clearly take pride in their work, making sure each plate finds its way to the table as hot and inviting as promised. The atmosphere doesn’t rush you, though; it invites you to savor the moment and the food alike.

The menu reads like a heartfelt nod to beloved Mexican staples, blending hearty, familiar dishes with unexpected twists. From generously layered tacos wrapped in warm tortillas to rich, cheese-laden chimichangas, the flavors are unapologetically vibrant. Guacamole and pico de gallo sit alongside more adventurous offerings, delivering layers of texture and color that brighten each bite. Even amid the flow of casual dining, there’s a clear sense of craftsmanship in how these flavors come together—a recipe for satisfaction that lingers beyond the meal.

For those drawn to fresh, satiny margaritas or chilled beverages, Taco Sombrero accommodates with thoughtful refreshment options, balancing the zest of the food with cooling, crisp companions. It’s a place where the feast feels both comforting and a little adventurous, encouraging you to pause and enjoy the rhythm of a genuine, local experience.

Parking may demand a bit of patience, and service moves at a brisk clip, but those who venture in find a spot where good food meets easygoing moments—no pretense, just a solid sense of place. Whether you’re returning after years away or sampling its offerings for the first time, Taco Sombrero keeps a steady promise of flavor and familiarity on the Gulf Coast.

Found this place as I was in town briefly to use an atm. The food was tasty but beans were very cold lol I don't understand how that could be a thing. I didn't care for the green salsa. I couldn't try the chili sauce as im vegeterian. I also didn't understand mentioning how the tortilla was 10" but well you see the picture. It was 1.89 so can't complain tooooo much but very odd. Would try something else if ever in the area again. Beans were tasty.

I am greatly satisfied!! This place was def a winner. For the price and the taste, I was left a happy customer. I saw reviews about their food having no seasoning. Um…… that can’t be true. My food was very well seasoned and flavorful. I’m not sure how they have not over succeeded Taco Bell because the taste and flavor of their food is much better. I would highly recommend this place. The food was fast, fresh and hot. The service was friendly as well. I have no complaints!

Recently moved back to the gulf-coast. I haven’t eaten at Taco Sombrero since 1996. It was better than I remembered. I definitely recommend if you want good Mexican food, give this place a try.

A very nice & clean restaurant. The service was great. The food came out hot , fast & was delicious. MaKayla Woodcock went above & beyond to make sure our food was delivered to our table. The entire staff was wonderful.

Free standing restaurant on this busy road selling Mexican food. Drive through, carry out and dine in options. Selling Coke fountain products and some ice cream desserts. Parking lot is tight and you order at the counter and a few minutes later your order is ready.

This location never disappoints. I have been eating here my entire life and it has been consistently good. I went to the other two locations and they do not compare. Drive to Gulfport to get the good stuff.
